Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It can cause:
- Painful periods
- Ongoing pelvic or lower-back pain
- Pain during or after sex
- Pain during bowel movements or urination
- Heavy bleeding
- Trouble becoming pregnant
Pelvic pain should not be dismissed simply because it happens during your period. An OB/GYN can evaluate your symptoms and discuss appropriate testing and treatment options.
Uterine Fibroids and Ovarian Cysts
Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that form in or around the uterus. Some cause no symptoms. Others may cause:
- Heavy or longer periods

- A swollen or enlarged abdomen
Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that form on or inside an ovary. Many go away without treatment, but some may cause:
